Privacy policy
We gather a small amount of information about visitors to our website, as described
below.
We us industry-standard methods of securing the information we gather, including
encryption for personally identifiable information such as email addresses.
We do not display any user's personally identifiable information to other users
on our website, nor do we provide this information to any other organizations.
Important: Throughout this policy, the term "book" is used to refer to
not only books, but also DVDs, compact discs, audio books, electronic books, or
any similar electronic or digital item.
All users
Certain areas of our website request information that will be displayed on our website.
This includes, for example, a nickname (for members), and comments on books. The
areas of our website that gather such information clearly state that the information
will be displayed on our website.
For all users, including anonymous users, we may gather information about the type
of web browser the user is using, and the IP address the user is connecting from.
We may use HTTP cookies to track user status while a user is visiting our website.
All members
For users who join BookProject, we gather an email address, a nickname, and a generic
location. We do not gather (or allow) real full names, or real physical addresses,
for member profiles.
Members who deploy books
To "deploy" a book means to put a person's own book into circulation with
BookProject. (For more information about deploying books with BookProject, please
visit our FAQ page.)
When a member deploys books with BookProject, we gather no personally identifiable
information, beyond what we gather for all members. Further, nothing is displayed
on our website that reveals who deployed the books.
Travelogs
A BookProject "travelog" is a record of the travels of a single book.
Each entry in a travelog contains the nickname of the member who logged the entry
(or "anonymous" for users who logged an entry without becoming a BookProject
member), the date of the entry, and comments about the book, if any were entered.
Only BookProject members can view travelogs. Users who do not become members are
welcome to create travelog entries anonymously, but they cannot view travelogs.
Members can only view the travelogs of the specific book copies they have deployed
or read.
Removal from our database
At any time a member in good standing may request that we terminate their BookProject
membership and remove their email address from our database. We will comply with
this request within a reasonable time period.
Monitoring of Content
BookProject has no obligation to monitor the content that members post or transmit
on this website. However, BookProject has the right and ability to perform such
monitoring, and the right (but not obligation) to reject or remove any content that
violates applicable law, these Terms and Conditions, and any other agreement that
users are bound to abide by.
Policy changes
We reserve the right to update and enhance our privacy policy from time to time.
The date of the last change to this policy will be displayed with this policy. Users
are responsible for checking for changes to this policy. To the extent required
under applicable law, and to the extend BookProject possesses a current email address
of users, users will be notified by email of any material change to this Privacy
Policy.
